Meet Pookie
Pookie went into foster in Gloucestershire on 10th August 2026.
Whenever our team visits Romania, we regularly call in at a very rundown little shelter run by two elderly people, taking food and supplies to help where we can.
There are several pens, and somehow we’d never quite made it right to the very back.
But on our visit last October, we did.
And that’s where we met Pookie. ❤️
We couldn’t believe we had never noticed this lovely boy on our previous visits. Then we heard his story.
Pookie had been left tied up outside the shelter seven years earlier.
He was taken in and given safety, food and shelter — but from that day onwards, Pookie had never once left his pen.
Seven years looking through the same bars.
Seven years without a proper walk.
Seven years watching life from inside that little pen.
The moment we heard this, we knew we couldn’t leave him there.
When Dalila opened his pen and took him out to go to the vet for his health checks, Pookie was absolutely beside himself with joy. He ran around doing zoomies like a puppy, barely able to contain his excitement at simply being FREE. 🥹❤️
Watching him that day told us everything we needed to know.
Taking Pookie was absolutely the right thing to do.
After seven long years, this gorgeous older boy finally got to discover that there is a whole world beyond the walls of that pen.
And now, Pookie’s next chapter can finally begin. 🐾❤️
