Meet Silkie

Silkie went into foster in Dorset on the 5th October 2026.

Please keep your eyes peeled for photos and updates to come.

Her Story

For most of her life, Silkie lived behind the locked gates of a derelict factory in Romania. The city council paid guards to watch over the site, and a group of dogs, both male and female, lived there alongside them. They had shelter of sorts, but little else. They were barely cared for.

One of our volunteers refused to forget them. She visited regularly with food, treated the dogs for fleas, and pleaded with the guards to let her take them to be sterilised. More often than not, the answer was no.

So Silkie had litter after litter. Many of her puppies were rescued, and today they are living happy lives in their forever homes here in the UK. Silkie, however, stayed behind the gates.

Then one day, one of the kinder guards let our volunteer take Silkie out. She was finally sterilised, and her days of raising puppies in a factory yard were over.

It wasn't long before life changed again. The city council decided to stop paying the guards and installed security cameras instead. The dogs who had lived there all their lives were simply thrown out onto the streets without a second thought.

Thankfully, our volunteer reached Silkie in time and found her somewhere safe to stay while she got ready for her journey to the UK.

After everything she has been through, you might expect Silkie to be wary of people, but she is the opposite. She is extremely friendly and loves human company. She has spent years giving everything to her puppies, and now it's her turn to be the one who is loved and looked after.

Important: Silkie can jump, so she needs a home with a very secure garden.
