Say hello to Max, a bright and loving companion ready for the right experienced home,
Hello Max
Max is a charming, affectionate boy who truly steals hearts wherever he goes. He absolutely loves people and will happily greet everyone he meets, often flashing his irresistible “puppy eyes” in the hope of earning a treat or two.
He is a bright and intelligent dog who is highly food motivated and eager to learn. He has already mastered a range of basic commands including sit, watch, touch, wait, and stay, and he continues to pick up new skills quickly. He walks beautifully on the lead and is happy to match his handler’s pace, making him a lovely companion for both relaxed strolls and longer walks. When off lead, he tends to stay close by, only occasionally distracted by something exciting like a passing bird.
At home, Max is settled and well-mannered. He is fully toilet trained and can go on command. He is also crate trained and is comfortable being left alone for a few hours with something like a Kong to keep him occupied. He is not destructive and shows no interest in chewing furniture. After a good walk and meal, he is more than content to enjoy a belly rub before curling up with a cuddly toy for a peaceful nap.
He is also very good with other dogs when out and about, remaining calm and neutral, and is happy to be approached and sniffed without issue.
While Max’s has many wonderful qualities, he does have some behavioural challenges that require ongoing work and experienced handling. He has shown resource guarding tendencies, particularly around items he has taken himself (such as shoes or blankets), as well as occasionally around food. This can present if he anticipates being fed and it doesn’t happen, or if someone attempts to remove something from him (for example, a finished Kong).
This is an area that will need continued, consistent training and should not be underestimated.
For this reason, Max is looking for a home with experienced owners who are confident handling and managing resource guarding behaviours. Experience with larger breeds, ideally shepherd-type dogs, would be highly beneficial. He would also be best suited to an adult-only home, despite his generally good nature, as management around food and items is essential.
Max is a deeply loving and rewarding companion who, with the right guidance and environment, will thrive. His current family is heartbroken to be making this decision and is fully committed to helping him find the right home. They are happy to speak with prospective adopters or fosters to ensure the best possible match.
