Sometimes love isn’t enough to heal a broken heart overnight.
Every rescue dog arrives with a story. Some leave their past behind surprisingly quickly. Others carry it with them every single day.
Vernon is one of those dogs.
Before Freedom Angels rescued him, Vernon lived a life no dog should ever know. He was repeatedly beaten by his owner until kind people risked everything to get him to safety.
In Romania, he was cared for almost exclusively by women, and despite enduring the most unimaginable cruelty, Vernon blossomed into the sweetest, gentlest soul. But since arriving in the UK, we’ve discovered that the fear of men his abuser left behind still runs deep. He doesn’t want to be frightened—he simply doesn’t yet know that he doesn’t have to be.
Now Vernon is facing another heartbreak.
Unless we can find him a long-term foster home, he will have to move into kennels. After everything he has endured, we desperately don’t want him to lose the comfort and security of a home.
We know Vernon’s person is out there.
A calm female-only home would suit him beautifully, where any male visitors can be introduced slowly and gently. Equally, an experienced man with patience and understanding could give Vernon the greatest gift of all—showing him that not every man hurts.
Imagine being so badly treated that you’re frightened of half the world’s population.
Imagine finally being safe… only to lose your home again.

His Story
Vernon was found scavenging in a Gypsy neighborhood. He was brought to us on our recent visit by a young man. He had taken Vernon after the children had finished throwing stones at him. He begged us to take Vernon for his safety.

Homes without direct access to a private and secure garden
Homes where the dog will have to be left alone more than 4 hours in a working day
Tested for known parasite conditions. Also for Leishmaniasis. Pursuant to government regulations all dogs have their blood tested here in the UK for Brucellosis prior to entry and enter the UK within 30 days of the blood being drawn. All dogs are microchipped.
